Have you done the Facebook 10 year challenge yet?
Hands up, who’s done it? The Facebook 10 year challenge has been doing the rounds since the start of the new year. If you’ve been living on another planet (or working away hard in a care home – same thing), and have not heard of it, the challenge is to post a picture of yourself 10 years ago, alongside a current picture, to show your friends how much you have changed in a decade.
It seems to have taken those who have done it on an unintended extended journey, further than looking at their facial features, body shape, hair colour, and wrinkles. People are looking at how their whole lives have changed in that decade. Where they were then compared to where they are now.
For some it has sparked positivity, their lives growing and becoming better, for others nothing has changed and they are perhaps stuck in the same old rut, and for a small and unlucky few it’s brought the realisation that life has taken some bad turns and they are now somewhere they don’t want to be.
It is something we don’t usually do, sit back and think hard about everything that has happened over a defined time period (who has the time). We deal with challenges and changes on a daily basis and so the majority go un-noticed, although each single event is shaping where we are going to end up.
So, our challenge to you readers, care business owners, facility managers, is to undertake the 10 year challenge. Where was your care home 10 years ago, and where is it now? How is it performing differently according to CQC? Have certain areas taken a steady decline? Have they improved? Alongside the answers you find to these questions, there is a bigger question to ask, WHY?
For those lucky people who jumped on board with Ablyss CMS 10 years ago or longer, it’s simple to run reports dating back this far so that you can compare results side by side. For those of you who have not got it, perhaps it would be worthwhile thinking of investing. Think how much different things could look in another 10 years!
It’s easy to become complacent, our industry is hard and time is a rare commodity. All too often we read the stories of failing care homes, and sadly sometimes we see them in front of our own eyes, talking about us specifically. Perhaps it is time to take a good hard look at your 10 year journey so far. Lets make it even better when you look back in 2029!
